Happy Fourth of July!

July is always a busy time at the Pinewood Playhouse. Right after we celebrate the 250^th  Anniversary of the United States of America our Drama Camp will present six productions of the delightful musical, Seussical Jr. on July 9-12, 2026.

Step into Seussical JR ‘s whimsical world, a musical bringing Dr. Seuss characters to life.  A perfect show for the whole family, Seussical JR. (performed by ages 6 to 18) takes us into the world of Dr. Seuss, where we revisit beloved characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and JoJo. The Cat in the Hat guides us into The Jungle of Nool where we see Horton, the kind-hearted elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whoville. He meets JoJo, a Who child reprimanded for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton decides he must protect the speck of dust on a nearby clover, while at the same time protecting an abandoned egg left to his care by the lazy Mayzie la Bird. Horton tries to convince the other animals in The Jungle of the existence of the Whos, but he is ridiculed and put on trial for insanity. Only his loyal neighbor, Gertrude McFuzz, never loses faith in him and eventually, the two fall in love. Seussical JR. weaves a story of friendship, loyalty, and love. Despite all odds, Horton and Gertrude band together to save the Whos, free Horton, and restore peace and unity to the Jungle of Nool. Seussical JR. teaches us the power of being unique, and the importance of fighting for your beliefs.

Mixed Nuts Improv Comedy Troupe is dedicated to delivering fast-paced, high-energy, and completely unscripted performances. They will visit the Pinewood Theater stage on July 25-26, 2026 presenting three family friendly performances.

Under the expert direction of Chris Redish, whose 30+ years in improv and background in film directing bring a sharp, cinematic timing to the stage, Mixed Nuts promises 90 minutes of unpredictable entertainment. The group’s foundational performers include the versatile Nathaniel Montgomery, who brings over twenty years of acting, directing and improvising, and audience favorite Mary Carder, with 15 years of on-stage impromptu performance experience. Together, this mixed ensemble of talented nuts transforms simple audience suggestions into elaborate sketches and quirky characters—all created on the spot.
